“A Shepherd with a Servant’s Heart”
Rev. John W. White Jr. serves as the Senior Pastor of Historic Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee. Installed in 2017, Pastor White leads the congregation with vision, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to God’s Word. His ministry continues Mt. Nebo’s 120 plus year legacy of faith, family, and service in the heart of South Memphis.
A dynamic preacher and gifted teacher, Pastor White is known for messages that blend biblical truth with real-life relevance. Through his weekly online devotion, “A Moment with Pastor John,” he encourages believers across the city and beyond to live out their faith every day. His preaching style—warm, practical, and Spirit-led—invites listeners to grow deeper in their relationship with Christ.
Pastor White has guided Mt. Nebo through a period of restoration and renewal. He views this revelation as a reminder that Mt. Nebo has always been “a refuge for God’s people.”
Following in the footsteps of Rev. Dr. Roy Love, who made Mt. Nebo a beacon during the Civil Rights Era, and Rev. James H. Joyner Jr., now Pastor Emeritus, Pastor White continues the tradition of spiritual leadership rooted in love and community.
“We are Historic Mt. Nebo—built on a foundation of God, love, and family. Everyone is welcome to be part of the story.”
